UNWOMEN

About the committee

The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UNWOMEN) is the UN agency dedicated to advancing gender equality and empowering women and girls around the world. Created by the United Nations General Assembly in 2010, UNWOMEN merges and builds on the work of four previously separate parts of the UN system that focused on gender issues. The agency works with governments, civil society, and other UN bodies to set global standards, support the implementation of policies and legislation, and promote women’s full and equal participation in all aspects of life — including politics, the economy, peace and security, and social development.

Agenda Item

Combating Violence Against Women: Global Initiatives and Effective Strategies

Within this committee’s agenda, delegates will confront the ongoing global crisis of violence against women — a clear manifestation of deep-rooted gender inequality. This violence takes many forms: physical, emotional, sexual, and financial. Beyond harming individuals, it weakens entire communities. Despite long-standing UN efforts, many regions still lack the urgency and resources needed to address the issue effectively. Now more than ever, strong international cooperation is essential to drive real change.
