H-SPECPOL
About the committee
The Historical Special Political and Decolonization Committee (H-SPECPOL) is a simulation of the Fourth Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, with a unique historical twist. SPECPOL, one of the six main committees of the UNGA, primarily deals with matters related to decolonization, the effects of atomic radiation, peacekeeping operations, outer space, and Palestinian refugees. In its historical format, H-SPECPOL transports delegates to a specific moment in the past to address pressing political and decolonization-related issues of that time using only the knowledge, context, and documents available up to that year. This historical setting allows delegates to critically examine the international community’s response to major geopolitical developments and reconsider decisions that shaped today’s world.
