H-UNSC

About the committee

The Historical United Nations Security Council (H-UNSC) simulates the Security Council at a specific point in history, challenging delegates to address real past crises with only the knowledge and context available at the time. Originally established in 1946, the Security Council is responsible for maintaining international peace and security and is the only UN body that can issue binding resolutions. With 15 members including five permanent ones the Council has played a central role in shaping global responses to conflict. In its historical format, H-UNSC allows participants to revisit key moments in international diplomacy and test their ability to negotiate under high-stakes, time-sensitive conditions.

Agenda Item

The Suez Crisis

The Suez Canal, 1956: not just a channel, but the centre of a crumbling empire and the spark that sets off an international confrontation. When the Repuclic of Egypt took control of the canal—once the symbol of British and French colonial arrogance—the world waits with bated breath. Britain, France, and Israel mobilize troops. The U.S. and USSR exchange icy stares. In the shadows, the Cold War's balance shifts with every passing ship.
Delegates, you enter today a world where diplomacy teeters in the scales of war. Will you uphold national sovereignty or safeguard imperial interest? Can you soothe tensions before tanks roll and the canal runs red with consequence? Espionage, backroom diplomacy, and ideological clashes await. The question is: In the struggle for control of the world, will you be the peacemaker—or the provocateur?
