About the committee

The World Health Organization (WHO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations responsible for international public health. It was established on 7 April 1948, a date now celebrated annually as World Health Day. The organization is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, and currently has 194 Member States. The primary objective of the WHO is "the attainment by all peoples of the highest possible level of health." The organization directs and coordinates international health responses, monitors public health risks, promotes universal health coverage, and provides leadership on matters critical to health and well-being. It also sets international health standards and guidelines, supports countries in responding to disease outbreaks and public health emergencies, and works to combat communicable and non-communicable diseases globally.
